#2024-286511/East Precinct/Third Watch:
At 0300 hours, two men entered a 7/11, pointed a firearm at staff, and demanded money. The employees fled to a back room, and the owner, who was watching video, called 911. Officers arrived within a minute of call time. Suspects fled, likely in a getaway vehicle.
#2024-286531/West Precinct/First Watch:
At 0503 hours, SPD officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary in the West Precinct area. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a stand-alone Wells Fargo ATM to a private business was damaged. It was discovered the suspect(s) used a working van and chain to pull the ATM off its base with negative results. The suspect caused damage to the wall and the ATM. As for this SIR, neither the van nor the suspect(s) was located. It was unknown if the suspect made off with any money from the ATM. SFD responded to secure the damaged wall. GIU and the Media Unit were notified.
#2024-286715/West Precinct/First Watch:
At 0917 hours, officers were dispatched to investigate an assault in the West Precinct area. Upon arrival, the officers interviewed the victim and found probable cause to arrest the suspect for Hate Crime because the victim believed he was assaulted based on his disability. The suspect was still at the scene and arrested without any issues. Interviews and video were collected at the scene by patrol. The victim was grateful to the responding officers and how they completed the investigation. Unit 222 was screened of the incident. An alert email with a notification was made.
#2024-286777/North Precinct/First Watch:
At 1015, the victim was making a deposit inside his bank in the vicinity of 15th Ave NW / NW Market St when he was approached by the suspect, who produced a crescent wrench and demanded money from the victim. The suspect brandished the wrench and took a couple of swings at the victim. The victim presented a knife to defend himself, and the suspect fled. The suspect was arrested without incident and will be booked into KCJ. Robbery was notified.
#2024-287021/East Precinct/Second Watch:
At 1420 hours, officers responded to a call for service near the intersection of E Fir St and E Spruce St for a drive-by shooting. Officers quickly arrived in the area and secured the crime scene. It was found that the suspect vehicle slowing drove southbound in 160 BLK of 24th Ave and fired multiple rounds at a house. Officers checked the house and found no damage and no one inside the residence. Officers collected shell casings and were able to locate footage of the suspect vehicle. Due to the proximity to Garfield High, the school was notified; however, was not put in lockdown due to the students already being released for the day. incident screened with GRVU. 244 and MEDIA notified. 991 assisted on scene.
#2024-287093/North Precinct/Second Wtach:
At 1549 hours, officers were dispatched to a bank alarm in John Sector. Bank employees stated to officers that the suspect handed over a note demanding money and threatening staff. Suspect also displayed a handgun. Suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. Detectives responded to the scene. Incident screened with the Robbery Unit.
#2024-286933/West Precinct/Second Watch:
At 1152 hours, officers responded to the location at the request of Federal Protective Police (FPS) reference a suspicious package left inside the loading dock of the building. Officers established a cordon around the building while SFD Hazmat Unit inspected the package. Upon inspection the package was found to contain no hazardous or threatening material. Car 21, 214, 234 (ABS) were on scene. FPS assumed responsibility for the remainder of the incident. SPD motor units and PEO’s assisted with traffic control.
#2024-286749/West Precinct/Second Watch:
At 0947 hours, Officers responded to the location reference an assault. Upon investigation, it was learned the victim is an employee at the location and has a physical disability. While at work on 10/06/24, another unknown co-worker began making bias comments to the victim about her physical disability, including that the victim should not be working there because she is disabled. The suspect then grabbed the victim and threw her into a wall. The victim tried to leave, and the suspect followed continuing to make bias remarks towards the victim. The suspect is unknown. Officers processed the scene. 219 was notified. The Bias Crime Coordinator, Violent Crimes Section Captain, and Public Affairs were notified.
#2024-287389/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:
At 2204 hours, a parked and occupied PEO vehicle was struck by another vehicle in the 9000 block of 35 Av Sw. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, and no other information was available about that vehicle or driver. The Parking Enforcement Officer was uninjured. Her supervisor responded to the scene, where patrol was already present.
#2024-287323/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:
At 2021 hours, patrol responded to a 7-11 located at 3280 SW Avalon Wy for an armed robbery. The suspect was wearing all black clothing, and a black ski mask entered the store and produced a black semi-automatic handgun. The suspect pointed the firearm at the clerk and removed cash from the till. The suspect fled in an unknown direction and manner. Detectives responded to the scene for processing. No suspect was located.
#2024-287345/East Precinct/Third Watch:
At 2054 hours, a caller reported adult passed out in the driver’s seat of vehicle with a 2-year-old in the back, parked at Cal Anderson Park. Officers arrived and located vehicle, extracting driver as he was putting vehicle in drive. Male was arrested for warrants and DUI. Search incident to arrest located more than 30 grams of fentanyl on his person as well as a fixed-blade knife, significant currency, and access devices. Blood warrant issued. Suspect booked on VUCSA-PWI and PSP, with charges referred for weapons, DUI, and reckless endangerment. Child released to mother on-scene with CPS referral made.
