SPD Officers Weren’t Horsing Around When They Capture a Runaway Stallion

Early Monday morning officers captured a runaway horse in South Seattle’s Rainier Beach neighborhood.

Shortly after 5:54 a.m., 911 dispatch received a report of a horse in the roadway in the 9600 block of Beacon Avenue South. The colt was described as having dark brown hair, dark mane, and tail.

Police arrived and located the four-legged subject grazing by a nearby fence.

Officers knew that this was not a time for horseplay and attempted to contact SPD Mounted Patrol for guidance; but there was no response. Seattle Animal Control was also not available.

A plan was quickly devised to both contain and safely capture the frightened animal galloping the streets. Officers kept their distance, slowly and methodically tracking the animal as it moved along the fence line. Eventually corralling the horse into a nearby pasture.

Officers walked the area knocking on doors to locate the owner.  The horse keeper was located, and the animal was returned safely.

When asked why he escaped the horse replied with “Neigh Comment” (we know it’s “Nay” don’t @ us).
