The Seattle police SWAT team arrested a 38-year-old convicted felon in Lower Queen Anne on Jan. 27 responsible for a drive-by-shooting in Greenwood last month.
This suspect drove a rented Jeep and fired at a Maserati driver. Both vehicles were recovered by officers during this investigation.
Detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) completed an extensive, monthslong investigation and located the suspect inside of a residence in the 300 block of 1st Avenue North.
Officers served a search warrant on the residence and SWAT moved into place. They announced their presence and saw frantic movement by the occupants.
SWAT forced entry into the apartment as the suspect was believed to be armed and dangerous. He opened a bedroom window as they were making entry and climbed out onto the ledge of the six-story apartment in an attempt to escape custody.
SWAT officers went to the roof and convinced the suspect to return inside as his options were to either surrender to police or risk falling from the building.
The suspect eventually surrendered and he was arrested.
Detectives recovered evidence inside of the apartment including two firearms, several calibers of ammunition, firearm magazines, narcotics, and other evidence. The suspect is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess any firearms.
According to the GVRU Lieutenant, “This arrest was possible based on the evidence gathered by West and North Patrol, and tireless work from GVRU.” This was an “Excellent investigation that culminated with holding the suspect accountable and taking multiple guns out of dangerous hands.”
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for felony investigation of Assault, Drive-by Shooting, and two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

On Dec. 28 a silver Maserati SUV was shot at Saturday afternoon in the 10200 block of Linden Avenue North in the Greenwood neighborhood.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., 911 dispatchers received reports of gunshots in the area. Officers arrived to find more than half a dozen shell casings at the scene.
A Police Investigation determined that a silver Maserati had been traveling slowly in the 10200 block when a silver Jeep attempted to block its path. The Maserati driver attempted to maneuver around the Jeep but stopped briefly. The driver of the Jeep exited the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the Maserati, and fired several shots at the driver’s side. The Maserati then fled southbound, with the suspect re-entering the Jeep and following the victim’s vehicle.
The suspect is described as a Black male in his 20s with shoulder-length locks, wearing a black hoodie.
No injuries were reported, and police were unable to locate either vehicle after searching the area. The Gun Violence Reduction Unit is leading the investigation into the incident.
