Woman Survives Extraordinary Traffic Crash into Building

Seattle police officers responded to a collision where a 37-year-old survived an extraordinary traffic crash in the First Hill neighborhood Sunday evening.

On January 19th at about 6 p.m., patrol officers and firefighters responded to multiple callers reporting a motor-vehicle collision into a building near the 100 block of University Street.

Police determined that the motorist was traveling eastbound on University Street when she attempted to make a U-turn near the intersection at University and Boren Avenue. The driver accelerated back through the intersection before the light turned red.

While making the U-turn she hit a parked vehicle then continued onto the sidewalk through a railing, and onto a ramp attached to an apartment building.

The vehicle crashed into the building at a high rate-of-speed and spun around 180 degrees following the impact and fell back onto the sidewalk hitting a streetlight, which fell and damaged a second parked vehicle.

Although the crash caused extensive exterior damage to the building, the Seattle Fire Department confirmed there was no structural damage, and it was deemed safe for residents.

The woman sustained only minor injuries from the collision, and police observed no signs of impairment. SFD transported her to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation and she is expected to recover.
