Officers investigating a suspicious bullet-riddled pickup parked in West Seattle on Monday were surprised by what was inside the vehicle – a cache of drugs and an armed man, dressed in ballistic body armor.
At around 2 p.m. on March 31, officers were dispatched to the 6500 block of 35th Avenue Southwest for a report of a suspicious vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found a blue Ram pickup with a damaged window and no license plates. A 34-year-old man standing at the front passenger door rushed behind the truck when officers approached. He continued walking away despite multiple commands to stop.
When officers got closer, the man resisted and reached for a large pocketknife in his waistband. He was also wearing ballistic body armor.
After being restrained and handcuffed, officers searched the 34-year-old man. They found multiple keys, including one that started the stolen truck, as well as several shaved keys.
A records check confirmed the truck had been reported stolen. During an inventory search, officers found a large quantity of 75 Xanax doses, 5.3 grams mushrooms, 0.3 grams methamphetamines and a scale. In another container in the truck, police recovered 14 stolen IDs and credit cards.
While being escorted to a patrol car, the man attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
The man was booked into King County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, drug possession, and possession of stolen access devices. Additional charges were recommended for possession of burglary or auto theft tools, obstructing a public officer, and resisting arrest.
