Firework Thrown from Vehicle Injured Man in Chinatown-International District

Seattle police are investigating an assault involving a large firework that seriously injured a man late Monday night in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District.

At 11:55p.m., officers responded to a report of a possible shooting in a parking lot near 9th Avenue South and South Jackson Street. They found a 23-year-old man with significant facial injuries but no gunshot wounds.

Seattle Fire Department arrived and treated the man at the scene before transporting him to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

Witnesses told officers they saw a vehicle drive by around the time of the man was injured and believe someone inside threw a large firework that hit him. No evidence of a shooting was found at the scene.

Seattle Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center reviewed video and saw a dark vehicle speeding away from the area shortly after the assault.

Detectives with the Homicide and Assault Unit are leading the investigation.
