Man Arrested For Shooting in Chinatown-International District, Gun Recovered

Seattle police officers arrested a 41-year-old man for Assault and Unlawful possession of a firearm following a shooting investigation in the Chinatown International-District this morning.

At about 1:40 a.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a man pointing a gun at people in Hing Hay Park. Dispatch relayed to responding officers that the suspect just shot a gun while the 911 call taker spoke to the victim on the phone.

Analysts in the Real Time Crime Center reviewed the community space cameras. The shooting could not be seen on video, yet it showed multiple people scattering out of the park during the time of the shooting, and the suspect running away toward 6th Avenue South.

Within two minutes of the 911 call, police found the suspect in the 600 block of South Jackson Street and arrested him without incident. They recovered the gun from his pocket.

Police determined that that suspect approached the victim and got into a verbal argument with her and her boyfriend. During the altercation, he shot a gun at them, yet they did not get hit. According to the police report, the suspect said, “he was going to kill her.”

Officers booked the man into the King County Jail for Assault and Unlawful possession of a firearm. The suspect, a convicted felon, is prohibited from having guns.

Detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit are assigned to this case.
