An intoxicated and armed 60-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after officers say he forced his way into a high school where he assaulted a security guard and pointed a gun at a teen.
On Oct. 7 at about 12:50 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of disorderly man trying to enter the school in the 1700 block of East Union Street.
The suspect was walking his two dogs when he approached the school and forcefully pushed past the security guard to speak with the principal. The principal told the man to leave.
Shortly thereafter, the man walked to East Pike Street near 16th Avenue and approached two teens sitting in a vehicle. The suspect, armed with a knife in one hand and a gun in the other, began yelling at the teens, telling them they can’t park on the street.
During the interaction, the suspect reached into the car, grabbed a 15-year-old by the neck while wielding the knife. He also pointed a gun at the teen.
The victim, who told police he feared for his life, managed to free himself and told the suspect he was calling 911. The suspect walked away with his dogs.
While investigating, officers tracked the suspect down to his house nearby. Officers asked him if he had any firearms, he replied that he didn’t. After securing a search warrant officers found two firearms inside the home.
Seattle Animal Control responded and took the dogs to a shelter.
The suspect was arrested for investigation of burglary and felony harassment. He was booked into the King County Jail.
Officers recovered video evidence showing the suspect pushing his way into the school, and a photo of him holding the knife in his hand.
Detectives in the Homicide and Assault Unit are assigned to this case.
