Police Recover Assault Rifle During Nightlife Emphasis Patrols in Pioneer Square

Seattle police officers arrested 29-year-old man and recovered an assault rifle during nightlife emphasis patrols in Pioneer Square this morning.

At about 2:15 a.m., following bar closure in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue South, patrol officers were enforcing trespass hours in the surrounding parking lots to deter gun violence. A sergeant detained a man after a loaded, short-barrel rifle with a thirty-round magazine fell out of his vehicle.

Officers arrested the man, a denied firearm applicant, without incident. Once they completed their investigation, they released him from custody. Police recommended criminal charges to the City Attorney’s Office for Unlawful possession of loaded rifle in a motor vehicle.

Officers recovered the firearm as evidence.

In referencing the Pioneer Square nightlife emphasis, “This strategy has been very effective at seizing unlawfully possessed guns from an area that has traditionally been impacted by nightlife gun violence incidents,” said Acting Assistant Chief Rob Brown.
