Detectives Investigate Fatal Collision in SODO

On Saturday, October 18, at 10:09 p.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle collision at East Marginal Way South and South Spokane Street in the SODO neighborhood.

Police arrived and found a vehicle overturned with a 16-year-old female driver trapped inside. A second male teen had been ejected and was in critical condition. Two other males had exited the vehicle on their own with serious injuries. Officers provided aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and freed the trapped female.

Medics transported all four to Harborview Medical Center. Despite lifesaving efforts, the teen who was ejected died from his injuries at the hospital. The other three remained hospitalized with serious or critical injuries.

Officers determined the vehicle had exited southbound State Route 99 at Harbor Island, struck the ramp barrier, and plunged approximately 80 feet before landing upside down.

Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) detectives responded and are investigating whether speed, impairment, or weather played a role. The investigation remains open.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call TCIS at 206-684-8923.
