Seattle police detectives are investigating an accidental shooting near Lakeridge Park in South Seattle last night.
On Oct. 26 at 9:13 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of shots fired in the woods near the 10300 block of Waters Avenue South. There, officers searched the area, yet they did not find any evidence of a shooting.
A short time later, a man arrived at Harborview Medical Center (HMC) via private vehicle, in serious but stable condition, with a gunshot wound to the leg. Detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) responded to HMC and interviewed him. Detectives determined that he met with at least one other person to test-fire their guns in the woods.
While test-firing, the man accidentally discharged one of the firearms, shooting himself in the leg. The driver that brought him to the hospital was not with him during the shooting, yet police impounded his car to the Vehicle Processing Room for further evidence search.
GVRU detectives are assigned to this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPD Non-Emergency Line at 206-625-5011.
