Man Arrested for Punching Bus Driver; Video Captured by Real Time Crime Center

Seattle police officers arrested a 25-year-old man for punching a Sound Transit bus driver in Downtown Seattle last night.

At about 10:50 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a transit driver being assaulted near 3rd Avenue and Stewart Street. There, officers found the 64-year-old victim shaking, with facial injuries.

Police determined that the suspect attempted to get onto the metro coach, yet the driver refused him entry, activating the barrier into the passenger seating area, as he recognized the man for causing disturbances on other buses previously.

The suspect became agitated and punched the driver in the face. He walked off the bus, posturing at the victim, then got back onto the bus and punched the victim again. The suspect then walked away from the area on 3rd Avenue.

An Analyst in the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) reviewed the cameras and captured video of the assault. The analyst sent a picture of the suspect to the officers searching for him.

Police quickly found the suspect matching the RTCC photographs near 3rd Avenue and Columbia Street. Multiple people on the bus reported having witnessed the assault. Officers arrested the suspect for Assault in the third degree and booked him into the King County Jail.

Detectives in the Homicide and Assault Unit are assigned to this case.
