The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (KCPAO) filed criminal charges against a 30-year-old man following his arrest for a hate crime ten days ago.
On Dec. 12, at about 9:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to reports of threats against a religious institution in the 1500 block of East Pike Street. Police found that the suspect made phone calls to the Synagogue which were automatically routed to the victim’s phone.
The man left two disturbing, profane voicemails. According to the police report, he “made various anti Jewish statements and made threats to murder members of the Synagogue.” He threatened, “when I find you I’m going to murder all of you.”
The victim, who works security, took the phone calls seriously and believed the threats to be credible. She notified a Seattle police captain, her synagogue’s religious leader, and she called 911.
While investigating, police contacted the suspect via phone. They asked him to identify himself, yet he refused. Officers reached out to police dispatch and the Real Time Crime Center, and found the suspect’s listed address, less than a mile from the synagogue.
At about 11:20 p.m., police went to the suspect’s residence in the 800 block of Seneca Street and arrested him without incident. Officers booked him into the King County Jail. He is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
Last week, the Seattle police Bias Crimes detective completed her investigation and referred felony charges against the suspect to the prosecuting attorney’s office.
On Dec. 17, the KCPAO filed charges against the suspect for Hate Crime Offense.
