North Seattle Homeowner Fights Off Intruder During Early Morning Break-In

A suspect is seriously injured and in police custody this morning after breaking into a home in North Seattle and attacking the 61-year-old homeowner.

Seattle police officers responded to an in-progress residential burglary in the 6100 block of Brooklyn Avenue Northeast at about 2:40 a.m. A father and his teen daughter were inside of their house when an intruder broke in, arming himself with a kitchen knife. The father grabbed a frying pan in self-defense.

During the home invasion, the suspect fought with the homeowner, chased him outside, and stabbed the victim in the leg, injuring him. The father defended himself, and the suspect, also believed to be stabbed during the altercation, sustained serious injuries as they fought with each-other in the front yard.

When police and the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived on scene, firefighters treated the homeowner for stab wounds and paramedics took him the hospital in stable condition. The 15-year-old daughter, who text into 911 reporting the break-in, was not injured.

Police and firefighters also treated the suspect, and SFD medics transported him to the hospital in serious condition with life-threatening injuries.

The unidentified suspect is currently in critical condition and under armed police guard at Harborview Medical Center. He is under arrest for residential burglary and felony assault.

This is an open and active investigation.
