Goodwill Hunting: Cops Track Down Bank Robber After Finding Evidence in Thrift Shop

A 49-year-old man is behind bars this weekend after two days of bank robberies when cops found his demand note in the Capitol Hill Goodwill.

On the afternoon of Jan. 16, the suspect entered the Columbia Bank on Broadway Avenue East. He approached the teller with a robbery note, demanding cash and saying he was armed with a gun. The teller gave the suspect money, and he fled the bank on foot. Latent prints responded to the scene and collected evidence, but the suspect got away.

A couple hours later, an employee at the nearby Goodwill called into 911 after finding an obvious bank robbery note in one of their changing rooms. Officers responded to the thrift store and found video footage of the suspect. Cops flooded the area and found the suspect, arresting him. They recovered cash believed to be taken in the robbery.

Officers transported the suspect to police headquarters where detectives interviewed him. During the investigation, they determined that the same man was responsible for a similar-style bank robbery the day before at the Downtown BECU on 6th Avenue.

Police booked the suspect into the King County Jail for both bank robberies. How do you like them apples?

Detectives in the Robbery Unit are assigned to these cases.
