At 1015 hours, police received reports that a contractor for a building complex in the 8600 block of Aurora opened the door of a unit to conduct maintenance. The resident became upset about this, pulled the worker into the unit, shoved him around, and pointed a firearm at him. The contractor attempted to leave however the suspect would not let go of his clothing and continued pointing the gun at the victim. Eventually the suspect was distracted by another person at the door, and the victim was able to escape and report the incident to staff who called 911. Containment was set up and a search warrant written. Crisis Response Team, Hostage Negotiation Team and SWAT responded to the scene. After about 6 hours the 35-year-old man was taken into custody and booked into King County Jail for kidnaping.
