The Seattle City Council will hear from the Seattle Police Department today on its Community Service Officer program.
Community Service Officers are non-commissioned outreach specialists who are liaisons between the Seattle community and the department. The Community Service Officer (CSO) program has deep roots in the SPD – the initial program was disbanded in 2004 but was brought back in 2019.
CSO’s bridge common gaps between traditional public safety work and community outreach, often helping our community’s most vulnerable populations get the help they need. Whether assisting elderly individuals avoid fraud, helping people with lost property, or connecting and educating our youth, the CSO program has proved to be a valuable part of the Seattle Police Department.
