Seattle police are investigating a violent assault that left a 34-year-old man critically injured early Monday morning in the Central Business District.
At about 12:06 a.m., officers responded to reports of a man outside a hotel in the 500 block Madison Street. When they arrived, they found a man lying on the ground with significant head trauma. Officers provided aid until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived and transported him to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
Initial reports suggested the man may have fallen and struck his head. However, as the investigation progressed, officers reviewed surveillance footage that showed what occurred. The victim was bent over in front of the hotel when the suspect approached and struck him in the head with an object, knocking him to the ground. The suspect then repeatedly struck the victim before leaving scene. The suspect is currently not in custody.
Detectives with the Homicide and Assault Unit are leading the investigation and will work to determine what led up to the assault.
