Officer stops armed DV downtown

On April 11th at approximately 1:30 a.m., a traffic officer was driving in the 1900 Block of 1st Avenue, when he saw a man grabbing at a woman with one hand, while the man held a semi-automatic handgun in the other. The officer had just driven past, and when he turned around, the man had stowed the gun in the rear of his waistband. The officer turned around and made contact, ordering the man to the ground. The man was less than cooperative and only partially complied. When other officers arrived, the suspect was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Officers recovered a loaded 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the man and woman are in a dating relationship and had been drinking at a nearby bar. The two had become embroiled in an argument/disturbance. When a bystander attempted to intervene, the man pulled his gun, pointed it in the bystanders face and told him to back off. He then waved it at a group of people who’d followed the couple from the bar. The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Assault.
