SWAT officers responded to Lower Queen Anne on Saturday morning to arrest a suspect in a domestic violence-related assault.
At about 7:30 a.m.*, a patrol officer in the 700 block of 2nd Avenue West spotted a suspect in a recent domestic violence-related assault case. When the officer approached him, the suspect fled into a nearby apartment building and refused to come out of one of the units.
Police ensured the victim was safe and not with the suspect, and then attempted to persuade the suspect to come out of the apartment. Patrol officers and an SPD negotiator tried to convince the man to surrender for several hours, but he refused to comply.
Police applied for a warrant and SPD’s SWAT Team responded to serve the warrant after a judge approved it. SWAT officers entered the apartment and arrested the suspect without further incident.
Officers booked the man into King County Jail for felony-level assault and violating a no-contact order, and alerted the Department of Corrections, as he is also wanted for a DOC-related warrant.
