Vehicle eludes police, crashes into house

On July 3, at approximately 10:25 PM, North Precinct officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu in the 12700 Block of 35th Avenue NE.  The Malibu had been involved in an earlier hit and run/eluding police incident in Ballard that evening.  After stopping the vehicle, the officers approached the Malibu on foot to contact the driver.  The driver appeared to cooperate with the officers, but then suddenly accelerated and fled southbound on 35th Avenue NE.  Both of the officers were brushed against the fleeing vehicle and struck by the Malibu’s mirrors, but the officers were not seriously injured.

At NE 120th Street and 35th Avenue NE the suspect vehicle failed to make a turn and crashed into a house near that intersection.  Three of the four people inside the car fled on foot, while one passenger stayed in the vehicle.  Officers quickly set up containment and the three outstanding suspects were located a short time later.  The driver of the car was positively identified by both the officers and the passenger who remained in the car.

There were no injuries to any of the residents inside the house, however, there was considerable damage to one corner of the house.  Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded and processed the scene.  The driver was processed for DUI and later booked into the King County Jail.  The three passengers were interviewed and released.  The vehicle was impounded and the the detectives will be responsible for the follow up investigation.
