On July 3, at approximately 2:20 AM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on the light rail tracks in the 9200 Block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South (just south of Henderson). Officers arrived and found one person slumped against the vehicle. The investigation revealed that the man leaning against the car was the driver. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of a possible broken leg. He was also processed at the hospital for DUI. It appears that the vehicle had been travelling at a high rate of speed northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South when it left the roadway, crossed a line of light rail tracks, and collided with a pole holding the power lines for the light rail system. Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad as well as Sound Transit employees also responded to the scene.
