5 teenagers injured in Alki Beach firepit incident

On June 11th, at 8:50 pm, Southwest Precinct officers, along with the Seattle Fire Department, responded to the firepits at Alki Beach for a report of injuries involving a number of teenagers and possible accerlerants in the fire.  Officers and firefighters arrived and located five injured teenagers.  While SFD began treatment of the injured, officers began interviewing witnesses.  According to witnesses,  the teenagers were at the firepit celebrating the end of the school year.  While everyone was standing around the pit watching the fire, one of the teens began adding some type of accelerant to the fire.  This caused an explosion, and resulted in the injuries.   All of the injured were transported to Harborview Medical Center with varying degrees of burns to their upper bodies and faces.  The Arson Bomb Squad was informed of the incident and will be handling the follow up investigation.
