K-9 Boomer found stolen firearm tossed by 16-year-old suspect

Officers responded to the report of four juvenile males smoking marijuana. On 5/13/13, at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers responded 25 Av SW and SW Trenton St to investigate reports of juvenile males smoking marijuana. As officers arrived, one of the males ran away and an officer chased and caught him a few blocks away. During the search incident to arrest, four bullets were located in the suspects’ pocket.

The suspect was well known to the officers and he is known to be armed. A K-9 was called to the scene to search for the gun. The gun was located by the SPD Bomb dog Boomer.

A complainant stopped the officers and said that he saw two males who threatened him with a gun in the area and the two were associated with the suspect the officers had in custody. He gave a detailed description and direction of travel. Officers located the two males walking south on Delridge Way SW in the 9400 block. Officers stopped the two and during a show-up the complainant positively identified them.

The three suspects were transported to the Southwest Precinct. At the precinct, one of the officers discovered that the gun located by Boomer was stolen.  The officer found the registered owner’s name during a check of the gun.  The owner reported that the gun had been stolen in a burglary on 4/30/13.  The gun’s owner responded to the precinct and identified the firearm. He also brought a copy of his victim follow up form that listed the guns’ serial number. 

Suspect (1) 15-year-old suspect was released from the precinct to his father.

Suspect (2) 16- year-old male was booked into Youth Service Center for Investigation of (VUFA) Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act, Harassment and Possession of Stolen Firearm.

Suspect (3) 16-year-old male was booked into Youth Service Center for Investigation of Harassment.
