Police Verify Legitimacy of Transportation Provider, Lawton Luring Case Closed

UPDATE: Police have made contact with the individual in this case and verified that he is a transportation provider with legitimate business at the school. Both he and his employer were very cooperative with police throughout the contact and officers are confident that no crime occurred. There will be no further investigation at this point.

Seattle police are investigating after a man, reportedly posing as a school transportation official, tried to lure a child into his van in Magnolia.

Police received a 911 call around 8:20 AM from a woman, who said she had been waiting with her elementary school-age child near 34th Ave W and Brygger Drive W. when a man driving a gold minivan pulled up nearby.

The man, who claimed to be working for school transportation, said he was there to pick up the woman’s child.

The woman refused to let her child go with the man, and took out her cellphone and began snapping pictures before he drove off.

Police are working with school officials and are still gathering details in the investigation. If you have any information about this case or recognize the man or the vehicle, please call 911.
