Two Seattle Department of Transportation contractors were injured around 8 o’clock this morning after a box truck struck the lift they were working in on a westbound exit ramp of the West Seattle Bridge on throwing both men from the basket, to the ramp and surface street below. The contractors were working on the Fauntleroy Expressway Bearing Pad Replacement Project.
One worker fell about 15 feet to the exit ramp, suffering serious injuries. The second worker fell about 50 feet to the surface street below the bridge deck, where the JLG Lift was parked, and suffered life threatening injuries.
Traffic Collision Investigation detectives are on scene, processing the collision site and collecting evidence. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time and is the subject of the investigation.
Both Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating.
