Patrol Officers and Gang Unit Detectives responded to 16th Avenue South and South Spokane Street for a call of shots fired. Upon arrival at the scene officers contacted two victims. The 17-year-old male victim had been shot in the right thigh. His girlfriend, a 20-year-old female, was not hit. The victim’s stated that they had just left a friend’s house and were walking home. They were walking uphill on Spokane Street when the male victim decided to “thumb” for a ride.
An SUV slowly drove by and the occupants yelled out something to the victims. One of the occupants of the SUV fired several shots at the victims and then sped off east on South Spokane Street. The male gunshot victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. SPD Homicide Detectives continue to actively investigate.
