On October 23rd at approximately 7:50 A.M. , a Ford Windstar van was heading southbound in the 100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The van was being driven by a 39-year-old female and was occupied by her two children, both under 10 years old. The youngest child had been seated in a booster seat behind the driver (middle seat), while the other child had been seated on the right side of the middle seat. The vehicle left the regular travel lane and crossed the solid white line while continuing southbound in the dedicated parking lane. It then rear-ended a legally parked and unoccupied truck and flatbed trailer combination. The van sustained extensive front end damage as a result of the collision. All of the occupants were treated at the scene and transported to the hospital via Seattle Fire Medics. The driver and children were not seriously injured. The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene. A traffic officer specializing in DUI investigations was sent to the hospital to screen the driver, where it was determined that she had been drinking. The female driver’s license was suspended/revoked in the 3rd degree. TCIS will conduct the collision investigation.
