Vigilant neighbor/alarm credited for frightening off would-be burglars

On October 23rd at 12:43 PM South Precinct patrol officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 5600 block of South Roxbury. A female witness observed 5 teenage males breaking into her neighbor’s basement. In doing so, the suspects also tripped an audible alarm. The would-be burglars fled on foot while the witness was on the phone with 911.

Officers arrived on scene within in less than a minute. They spotted and detained a 14 year old suspect matching the description provided by the witness. The witness positively identified him as one of those involved in the crime. The other suspects escaped apprehension. The 14 year old was was transported to the South Precinct and later released to his parents.
