Van vs Bicycle Collision, West Seattle

On November 21 at approximately 4:38 P.M. a white 2006 Chevrolet panel van driven by a 23-year-old male was traveling westbound in the 1600 block of SW Barton Street. As the van approached mid-block, a 5-year-old boy on a bicycle rode into the street from the north sidewalk. The van driver attempted to stop but struck the bicyclist with the right front corner of the van. The boy was knocked off the bicycle striking his head on the concrete street. SFD Medics responded to the scene and transported the boy to an area hospital with possible serious head injures. Hospital staff later gave an update of the boy’s medical condition as cuts and abrasions to his head and other bruises, but no serious injuries. Investigating officers evaluated the driver of the van for signs of impairment and/or intoxication. None were noted during the evaluation. The driver of the van was interviewed and released from the scene. There were no citations issued. SPD Traffic Collision Investigation Squad Detectives continue to actively investigate the collision.
