On Tuesday, 12/16/08 at approximately 7:00 PM East Precinct Officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired in the area of Garfield Community center. Upon arrival they found that the victim had been shot in the head. The victim was conscious and said he did not know who had shot him. He indicated that the incident happened outside the community center and he ran inside after being shot to get assistance. Witnesses indicated that the suspects fled across the field to 25 Ave. The number of suspects involved in the shooting is undetermined at this time. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he was taken to surgery and is expected to survive.
Patrol Officers called for a K9 unit which responded and was able to track for a short distance, but no suspects were located. Gang and Homicide detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene and Crime Scene investigators responsed to process the scene.
