On 1/12/09 at 10:30 PM West Precinct officers responded to single vehicle collision on the Alaskan Way Viaduct. The driver lost control and struck the guardrail on the west side of the freeway near the 1500 block of Alaskan Way S, damaging it. The vehicle partially penetrated the guardrail making it look as it the vehicle was going to go over the side. Initially, callers to 911 reported that this had happened. Fortunately, this was not the case. Though the vehicle was totaled, the lone female occupant was not injured. One lane of the Viaduct was closed for about 45 minutes.
