On 2-3-09 at approximately 9:30 p.m., the driver of a commercial vehicle forgot to lower his boom and drove under the 1st Ave overpass in the 4700 block of Denver Ave South. The boom subsequently struck the overpass and damaged several concrete support structures. It was necessary to close the overpass until SDOT engineers could examine the overpass. The overpass was reopened at 1156 p.m. but Denver Ave So remained closed until SDOT could clean up the concrete debris and do a more thorough examination of the bridge structure.
The driver of the vehicle suffered facial injuries and was taken to HMC. The vehicle was removed from the scene by ABC towing.
