On February 4th at approximately 3:30 PM West Precinct Officers responded to a call of a bank robbery in the 1400 block of 5th Avenue. Witnesses related that a man his mid 30’s, 6’0, nicely dressed entered the bank and demanded money, telling bank employees he had an explosive device in his bag. The suspect robbed the bank and left on foot. As officers were arriving, they noticed the bank was locked and all employees had evacuated the location. Officers set up containment and multiple units were assigned to control both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The Arson/Bomb Squad responded and sent two robots, along with a bomb technician into the bank . The suspicious package was rendered harmless by the bomb squad. The FBI bank robbery task force processed the scene and the bank and traffic surrounding the location were secured at 6:00 PM. The suspect is still at large.
