On February 11th at 5:20 AM, a South Precinct patrol officer was on routine patrol travelling northbound on the 4th Avenue S bridge. At the same time, a Chevrolet S10 Pickup Truck was traveling southbound on the bridge. Both vehicles collided head-on.
Seattle Fire Department medics responded to the scene and evaluated both drivers for injuries. Neither vehicle had additional occupants. The adult male driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The patrol officer was uninjured. Traffic Collision Investigation Section detectives responded to the scene to investigate. At this early point in the investigation, it appears that the officer lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line, colliding with the truck. Ice on the bridge may have been a contributing factor.
The 4th Avenue S bridge was closed in both directions for the duration of the investigation. All lanes of traffic were reopened at 9:28 AM. SPD Traffic officers assisted by providing traffic control.
