On March 5th at approximately 3:27 p.m. officers responded to 911 reports of shots fired in the 10400 block of 67th Avenue South. Another call to the 911 Center reported that there was a man down in the street with possible gunshot wounds. As officers were enroute to the call, 911 received another call of shots fired in the 5500 block of South Avon Street at 3:33 p.m. In this second incident, complainants reported a man firing a handgun into the air and yelling. The suspect fled on foot near Rainier View Elementary School. The school was placed in lock-down as a safety measure. The suspect never entered the school and nobody from the school was injured throughout the course of this incident.
At 3:43 p.m. an adult male with a gunshot wound to his back arrived at a business in the 1200 block of 12th Avenue South. From that location he was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
We believe the same suspect, a black male in his 20’s with a slim build and wearing a blue dress shirt, is responsible for both the shooting assault and the shots fired incidents.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the only person injured throughout this incident was the man transported to Harborview. Furthermore, we believe that the victim and suspect are known to each other. At this stage in the investigation, we are unaware of any property damage as a result of these events.
Officers conducted an extensive area search for the suspect, including a K-9 track. However, the suspect remains at large at this time. Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911 or Seattle Police immediately.
