SWAT stand-off ends, suspect arrested

On 3/30/09 at 8:08 a.m., officers responded to a threats call at an apartment building in the 300 block of Maynard.  The victim reported that a tenant had threatened him with a hammer and destroyed property in the building’s common areas.

Officers arrived and attempted to contact the suspect at his apartment.  The officers observed a hammer stuck in the door,  the door was ajar and the suspect yelled at the officers.  The suspect yanked the hammer out of the door and refused orders to put down the hammer.  The suspect reentered his apartment and closed the door behind him.  More units were called to the scene.

 

The suspect refused to come out or make contact with officers.  He was heard breaking things in his apartment.  The officers  believed that the suspect would be a threat to the public if he were not taken into custody.

 

SWAT was contacted and responded to the scene along with Hostage Negotiators.

 

At 4:35, after the introduction of a chemical irratant. into the suspect’s apartment, he surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.  Following an examination by Medic One, the suspect was transported to King County Jail and booked for Harassment and Assault.
