Vehicle vs pedestrian crash with serious injuries

On May 8 at approximately 10:10 p.m a 1995 Chrysler Le Baron driven by a 51-year-old male was traveling northbound on 9th Avenue SW approaching SW Elmgrove Street. At the same time a 29-year-old male got off a southbound Metro bus at the bus stop on 9th Ave SW just south of SW Elmgrove Street. He walked to the unmarked cross walk just south of SW Elmgrove Street and started to cross 9th Ave SW from west to east. The pedestrian was struck by the Chrysler and fell to the concrete. SFD responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to Harborview Medical Center with life-theatening injuries. Investigating officers evaluated the driver of the Chrysler, who displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The driver was transported to HMC, where a blood draw was completed. He was interviewed and released from HMC pending further investigation and potential criminal charges. The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and continues to actively investigate.
