On May 28th at around at 10:22 p.m. an adult male called 911 from a residence in the 7900 block of 47th Avenue S stating that there was an unknown adult male ringing his doorbell. The suspect continued ringing the doorbell even after being told that the requested person did not live there. At 10:27 p.m. the suspect kicked in the front door. He and another adult male ordered the man and his adult sister on the floor at gunpoint, demanding money. Officers arrived at 10:29 and visually observed one suspect inside the residence. Officers ordered him to surrender and he did. The male victim exited his residence as well. His sister remained inside, fearful that if she left the residence she would be harmed by the other suspect. She did not have visual contact with the suspect. The residence was contained and a perimeter was established.
SWAT and Hostage Negotiators responded to the scene. Hostage negotiators convinced the woman that it was safe to flee the residence. She did as instructed and fled to the safety of the perimeter. Hostage Negotiators attempted to contact the suspect but there was no response. Believing that the suspect was still inside, SWAT officers deployed a chemical irritant into the residence. At around 2:45 a.m. they entered the residence and searched it. The suspect was not there. Presumably he escaped when officers first arrived, unknown to the female victim who believed that he had not. This suspect’s identity is known and police are currently searching for him.
The 22-year-old male suspect who surrendered was transported to the South Precinct and later booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered and placed into evidence. The suspect’s vehicle was impounded and will be held for processing. SPD Robbery detectives will conduct the follow up investigation.
While searching the residence for the suspect, SWAT officers discovered a large amount of suspected marijuana in plain view. The marijuana was seized and placed into evidence. This aspect of the incident will be forwarded to the Narcotics Section for separate and additional investigation.
