SWAT callout ends peacefully

At 9:15 a.m., SPD Communications received a call from the wife of a suicidal male. The subject/male was at his home in the 13300 block of 23rd NE .  According to the wife the two had separated a few days earlier and her husband had become depressed. This morning the subject called his wife and reported that he was going to harm himself.  The couple’s adult son was in the home with the subject.  Officers arrived and were able to get the son to come outside.  The son reported that his father was inside, with a loaded revolver.  He said that his father was suicidal, and had taken prescription medications and alcohol.  The son took the gun from his father and put it in another room (in the open) before exiting the house. Attempts to contact the subject via PA and phone were unsuccessful.  SWAT was called out, but the suspect answered a telephone call approximately 2 hours into the incident and agreed to come out. The subject was was taken to Northwest Hospital for an involuntary commitment.
