On 10/3/09, at approximately 8:00 p.m., unknown suspect(s) lit a discarded couch and three large dumpsters behind a occupied apartment unit in the 5500 block of 15th Ave. NE. It is unknown what was used to ignite the fire. The placement of the items partially blocked the rear exit facing the alley causing a substantial risk to the occupants.
The flame reached almost to the top of the multi-story building. Occupants stated that the smoke alarms did not go off, as there were none in the hallway. Fire Marshall 5 and Arson Bomb Squad responded to the scene to investigate.
On 10/3/09, at 8:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) lit mattresses and other discarded items in the alley behind the 1300 block of NE 56th st. The burned materials were against the building before they were lit. No damage to the building occurred, as this portion of the building was concrete construction. Fire Marshall 5 and Arson Bomb Squad responded and believe the incidents may be related. No suspect inforamation
