On 10/16/09, at about approximately 2:02 a.m., officers responded to a call from security at a Club in the 2200 block of Western Ave. Security had detained a subject who had been armed with a handgun. When Officers arrived, the subject was already in handcuffs, and security had possession of his firearm.
It appears that the subject had encountered a male, with whom he has had an ongoing dispute inside the club and words were exchanged. Once the club let out, the suspect armed himself with a handgun. He said that he got the gun from an unnamed “friend,” because he feared that the other male might shoot him.
At some point, the suspect and the other male came into contact outside the club. During the encounter, the suspect pulled the handgun from the rear of his waistband and held it in his outstretched hands. Club security, who were armed themselves, witnessed this and responded by ordering the suspect to the ground at gunpoint. He complied and they took him into custody and recovered the weapon.
The weapon, a Taurus semi-auto pistol was determined to be an stolen gun, which was taken during a robbery a week ago.
The suspect was booked for Investigation of PSP-Firearm.
