Accreditation Team invites public comment

The Seattle Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment as part of a program to achieve re-accreditation.  This is accomplished by verifying that SPD meets professional standards administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).  The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas:  policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, CALEA’s Assessment Team will take public comments on the Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation.  Comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address accreditation standards.

Agency employees and members of the community are invited to:

  • Call (206) 684-5678 on Sunday December 6, 2009 between 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
  • Attend a public meeting on December 7, 2009 at 6:00 PM at Seattle Police   Department Headquarters, 610 5th Avenue in the Lower Level  conference room.
  • Submit comments to CALEA via mail or telephone.  Send written comments to:
CALEA, 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia, 22030-2215
    Or call: (800) 368-3757 or (703) 352-4225
