On January 12th, at approximately 5:20 am, West Precinct officers responded to a call of a car prowl in progress in the area of 9th Avenue and Pike Street. The victim vehicle was described as a Volkswagen. A witness, who was watching the crime unfold on a nearby security camera, called 911 to report it as well as provide suspect descriptions. The witness observed the suspects get into a dark colored Mazda MPV and leave the area. While conducting an area check for the suspect vehicle, an officer spotted a car matching the description in the parking lot of a business at Fourth Avenue North and Denny Way. The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted two men inside who matched the physical description of the suspects. A remote key to the Volkswagen was recovered from one of the men. The other man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The suspects were arrested. Later, officers were able to view the surveillance video and confirm that the 35 year-old man for car prowl and an outstanding warrant. The other man, 42, was booked for his warrant.
