On January 16th at approximately 2:30 a.m. officers responded to a 911 call of a man screaming for help in the 1600 block of Melrose Avenue. Investigation determined the following: a 26-year-old male victim was trying to enter his apartment building when a 52-year-old male suspect approached him. The suspect grabbed the victim’s groin and then continued to assault the victim, trying to steal the victim’s wallet in the process.
The victim fought back and two witnesses intervened, separating the suspect from the victim. The suspect sat down on his own and then passed out unconscious.
Responding officers arrived on scene and began CPR on the suspect. Officers then utilized a Department-issued defibrillator to monitor the suspect. SFD Medics arrrived on scene and took over treatment. The suspect was revived and transported to Harborview Medical Center where he was reported to be in critical condition. The victim sustained cuts and abrasions to his head but did not require transport.
The suspect was found to be in possession of the victim’s wallet. Officers recovered the wallet and returned it to the victim. The suspect is under arrest and is being guarded by an officer until he is released from the hospital at which time he will be booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.
