Public Hearing on Seattle’s Police Accountability System

The Seattle City Council and the Office of Professional Accountability Review Board (OPARB) will jointly host a public hearing on the effectiveness of the City’s police accountability system on Tuesday, January 26th at 5:30 p.m. in Seattle City Hall Council Chambers located at 600 4th Avenue.  Sign-ups for public comment will begin at 5:00 p.m.  The hearing will be a joint meeting of the Council’s Labor Policy Committee and Public Safety and Education Committee.

The intent of the hearing is to provide a forum for elected officials to hear directly from the public before the City begins labor negotiations with the Seattle Police Officer’s Guild (SPOG).  The current SPOG contract ends December 31, 2010, and negotiations are expected to begin in May of 2010.

The City will take into consideration suggestions presented at the hearing as it moves forward in the labor negotiation process with SPOG.  For more information, please contact Betsy Graef in Councilmember Tim Burgess’ office at 206-684-8806.
