On April 2nd at approximately 1:31 p.m. officers responded to the 4000 block of NE 50th Street for the report of a man who had sustained an accidental gunshot wound to the head. Officers arrived on scene and contacted both the suspect and victim. Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect was putting a sling on his rifle inside his apartment. The rifle was aimed downward with the barrel resting on the floor. After putting the sling on the rifle, the suspect pulled the trigger not knowing that the gun was loaded. A single round discharged from the weapon into the apartment below, grazing the victim (the tenant living in the apartment below the suspect) in the head.
SFD medics responded to the scene and transported the 44-year-old male victim to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect, a male in his 30’s, was interviewed by officers and booked into the King County Jail for Reckless Endangerment. The rifle was booked into evidence.
