Man assaults police officer in Pioneer Square, arrested

On April 23rd, at approximately 1:30 AM, Seattle Police were called to a disturbance outside of a bar in the 100 Block of South Washington Street.  A 56 year old male had been inside the establishment drinking.  He was so intoxicated that the bartender took away his drink.  The suspect then grabbed a beer and tried to consume it.  Security then attempted to escort the man out of the bar.  The suspect tried to punch and kick the security guard.  Eventually, the security guard got the suspect outside, but he was still struggling with the suspect.  An SPD officer arrived.  The suspect then jumped up from the ground where he was sitting and began throwing punches at the officer, one of which grazed the right side of the officer’s face.  Other officers arrived quickly and took the suspect into custody.  The officer was not injured.  The suspect was later booked into the King County Jail on assault charges.
