Suspects captured after Robbery/Assault on Capitol Hill

On Friday, May 21st at approximately 8:01 a.m. officers responded to a report of a victim hit by a car in the 300 block of East Roy Street.  Preliminary investigation indicates that two suspects, a 20-year-old female and a 22-year-old male were writing graffiti on a sign and a barrier.  The adult male victim photographed the suspects and their vehicle, a red Ford sedan.  The suspects got into their car and subsequently struck the victim with their vehicle.  The suspects then physically assaulted the victim as he tried to get into his apartment building.  The suspects also tried to steal the victim’s camera.  During the course of the assault, the victim’s cell phone fell out of his pocket and was taken by the suspects prior to them fleeing the scene in their red Ford.  The suspects were at large, but not for long.

Investigating officers developed information that led them to Bellevue.  Seattle Police Officers located the suspect vehicle in Bellevue (unoccupied) and had it towed to the SPD Evidence garage for processing.  Officers were unable to locate either suspect.  SPD called Bellevue Police and briefed them of the situation.

Bellevue Police notified SPD when the two suspects called from a local hospital in Bellevue to report an assault.  The suspects were at the hospital so the female suspect could be treated for a head cut she sustained while assaulting and robbing the victim.

SPD officers responded to the hospital and took both suspects into custody.  Officers were able to positively identify the suspects due to the victim having taken a very clear picture of the suspects standing by their vehicle.  Both suspects were still wearing the same jackets they had been wearing when the photo was taken of them at the original scene.  Additionally, the female suspect had the victim’s cell phone in her possession.

Both suspects were booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Robbery.  The female suspect was also booked for Investigation of Assault, as she was the one driving the car when it was used as a deadly weapon to strike the victim.

The 31-year-old male victim was treated at an area hospital for an injured back, and abrasions and contusions to his face, knee and legs.  He is presently on crutches due to the injuries he sustained from the robbery and the vehicular and physical assaults.

Seattle Police Robbery detectives will be handling the active and on-going investigation.
