Fatality collision on Aurora

On May 31st, at approximately 7:25 AM, a Toyota Camry driven by a 24 year old man with a 24  year old male passenger was travelling southbound on Aurora Avenue North.  As the vehicle entered the 1700 Block of Aurora, it failed to negotiate the right curve and left the roadway colliding broadside with a light pole on the west side of Aurora.  The impact caused the Toyota to rollover at least once and it came to rest on its top.  The light pole broke off at ground level and fell across two lanes of Aurora.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and extracted both males from the car.  SFD transported both men to Harborview Medical Center, where the passenger later died.

The 24 year old driver was treated and released from the hospital.  He was then booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Homicide.

Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad (TCIS) responded to the scene and began their investigation and process of the scene.  The Toyota was impounded and Seattle City Light removed the down pole.  The roadway was reopened to traffic at approximately 11:15 AM.  TCIS detectives will continue their investigation into this collision.
